Outstanding Government Civil Engineering Project

Northeast Interceptor Sewer Project (City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering)

Sewer tunnel project that was put into service on May 27, 2005 (ahead of schedule).  The project was a $162 million, over 5.2 mile long and almost 8 feet finished diameter sewer.

Technical Excellence

The Road Closures Website (County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works)

Website was created within days that record-breaking rainfall damaged over 130 roads in LA County.  Provided citizens with timely access to much-needed information about this local emergency.

Student Chapter Practitioner Advisor

Serge Haddad (Loyola Marymount University)

Very active in the chapter.  Always willing to give presentations at meetings or provide advise on various issues.  Played a leadership role in the Younger Member Forum.

Outstanding Younger Civil Engineer

Terence Pao (DMJM Harris)

Has contributed to several major roadway, structures and rail projects.  Was the honoree of the Orange County Engineering Council’s 2004 Young Engineer Award for work on the Interstate 5/State Route 55 Project Study Report.

Outstanding Civil Engineer in Government

Diego Cadena (County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works)

County Department of Public Works employee, one of the largest public works agencies in the nation.  Has been the Division Engineer and manager of the Road Maintenance, Flood Maintenance, Operational Services and the Architectural Engineering Divisions.  Currently oversees a staff of over 400 employees.

Outstanding Civil Engineer In Private Sector

James H. Clark (Black & Veatch)

Vice President and Senior Project Manager of the engineering/construction firm of Black & Veatch Corporation.  He manages planning, design and operations projects for many of its premier water and wastewater clients in western North America.  He is also the recipient of many awards for his work and has authored more than 20 publications.

Outstanding Public/Private Sector Civil Engineering Project

Sun Valley Park Multiuse Project (County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works)

This project showcases innovative application of watershed management principles and new technology in the development of new, sustainable urban infrastructure.  The project will simultaneously provide flood protection, stormwater quality enhancements, water recharge, recreational and aesthetic enhancements,  and watershed education.
