Recognizing outstanding achievement through leadership and academic achievement is an important part of our Branch Scholarship awards. The Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch of the American Society of Engineers feels that there are qualities of character in addition to this criteria that are worthy of recognition and merit a separate award.
The Patti Gadomski Memorial Scholarship recognizes the student who is not only committed to a difficult course in the pursuit of an engineering degree, but also to the improvement of their community by giving freely of their time, heart, and spirit.
As engineers, we understand that it is not only our technical skills that define us, but also the contributions we make to the world around us that separate us as individuals who are active members of their community. The recipient of this award will be a student who demonstrates and embodies this understanding that a person is not only what they achieve, but also what they give of themselves to others when the benefit to oneself is not always so readily evident.
Patti Gadomski was the wife of Steve Gadomski, long-time Faculty Advisor at California State University, Northridge. Patti lost her life to cancer in 2006, but left behind a legacy of giving-of herself, her time and her heart. These qualities, which were prevalent throughout Pattiā??s life, are the ones we hope to recognize and nourish with this award.
Requirements: Submit a 1,000 maximum word essay describing volunteer work either locally, nationally or internationally.
Award amount: $1,000
Award date: Recipient will receive award at the Los Angeles Section Student Night event.
