Below is the full timeline for our applications process.

Thursday, July 8th - Executive and Appointed Board Applications Open
Friday, July 31st - Board Applications Due by 11:59 pm
Friday, August 28th - Board Announced
Saturday, September12th - Annual Planning Meeting (TENTATIVE)

EXECUTIVE BOARD

The following five positions are elected roles on the Officer Board and form the YMF Executive Board.

 

Past-President

  • Submits the Annual Report to the ASCE Committee on Geographical Units (CGU)

  • Completes nomination packages for Society, Section, and CGU Award Applications

  • Serve as a liaison between YMF, Branch, and Section as requested

  • Mentors and assists officers with their duties as requested

  • Provides historical context to Branch events and programs as requested

President

  • Shall have general supervision over all Branch affairs, programs, and events

  • Call and preside over Officer, Executive, and Special Meetings to conduct Branch Business

  • Represent the Branch at YMF, Section, Region, and Society-Level meetings and events

  • Collaborate with the President-elect to appoint and assist Committee Chairs as requested

  • Authorized to allocate, expend, and monitor funds for Branch affairs, programs, and events

  • Maintains and updates all Branch Emails, Google Drive, and account logins

 

President-elect

  • Serve a three-year term as President-elect, President, and Past President with one year in each

  • Preside over meetings in the absence of the President or as requested

  • Become familiar with Branch affairs, programs, and events to prepare for their term as President

  • Collaborate with the President to appoint and assist Committee Chairs as requested

  • Maintains Branch property, supplies, and materials, including the Storage Locker

  • Oversees the application process of new officers

  • Assists the President as deemed necessary to fulfill their duties

 

Secretary

  • Prepares and distributes Meeting Agendas and Minutes to officers and members for all meetings

  • Maintains a current member email distribution list

  • Maintains and updates the Master Events Tracker in conjunction with the Branch Calendar

  • Supports posting content for events and programs on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook

Treasurer

  • Authorized to allocate, expend, and monitor funds for Branch affairs, programs, and events

  • Maintains and monitors funds in all Branch bank accounts, payment platforms, and cash receipts 

  • Prepares and submits budgets, financial reports, and funding applications to LA Section and other organizational entities as required 

  • Process all reimbursement requests, invoices, checks, and sponsorships promptly

  • Ensure payment of Branch Account Subscriptions

The following twenty positions are appointed roles on the Officer Board and form the Branch Appointed Board. They are grouped into three main categories based on focus area.

Professional Focus Area

Awards Banquet Chair(s)

  • Plan and organize the Annual Branch Awards Night and Banquet to recognize industry leaders and projects for their accomplishments

  • Coordinate venue logistics, registration, and industry sponsorships/attendance

  • Maintain the Awards Page and create event pages as needed on the website

  • Write articles for the event to be published on the website and in the newsletter

Government Affairs Chair(s)

  • Plan and coordinate events for members to meet with officials on the local, state, and federal levels to promote infrastructure, including the ASCE DC Fly-In, Region 9 Fly-In, and LA Drive-In

  • Write articles for each event to be published on the website and in the newsletter

Membership Chair(s)

  • Maintain appropriate access to the ASCE Society membership database

  • Send welcome letter addressed to new members with the President’s message

  • Submit list of Student Members to the University Outreach Chair

​​Professional Development Chair(s)

  • Plan and organize events that support the professional development of our members, such as technical presentations/workshops, project tours, and joint events with professional organizations

  • Collaborate with University Outreach Chairs to support the professional development of students

  • Write articles for each event to be published on the website and in the newsletter

Social Activities Chair(s)

  • Collaborate with YMF to plan and organize the Annual Holiday Party

  • Coordinate social events after Monthly Board Meetings

  • Write articles for each event to be published on the website and in the newsletter

​​​Student Outreach Focus Area

K-12 Outreach Chair(s)

  • Plan and organize educational outreach events for students in kindergarten through 12th grade

  • Support students with applying for scholarships or college applications as requested

  • Write articles for each event to be published on the website and in the newsletter

University Outreach Chair(s)

  • ​Serve as the liaison between YMF, Practitioner Advisors, and ASCE LA Section Student Chapters 

  • Serve as a mentor for students and provide interview prep and resume reviews as requested

  • Write articles for each event to be published on the website and in the newsletter

High School Bridge Contest (HSBC)

  • In collaboration with LABOE, plan and organize the Annual High School Bridge Contest to help students learn about civil engineering and support their professional development

  • Coordinate venue logistics, student registration, and industry sponsorships

  • Maintain the HSBC Page and create event pages as needed on the website

  • Write articles for the event to be published on the website and in the newsletter

Media and Communications Focus Area

Historian(s)

  • Support Board Members by taking photos/videos at Branch events and programs

  • Aid in writing articles and collecting feature photos for the website and social media

  • Update and maintain the Branch SmugMug Account

Newsletter Chair(s)

  • Create and distribute the Quarterly Newsletter

  • Ensure Board Members write articles for each event and are published on the website

  • View more at @ascemlab, LinkedIn, and Facebook
