As we commence a new year, it is a profound privilege to welcome our members, partners, and colleagues to the ASCE Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch (MLAB). Looking ahead, I am filled with a deep sense of optimism. I find myself focused not only on the achievements we have already realized, but on the vital work that has not yet been completed, the innovative ideas waiting to be sparked, and the meaningful professional relationships that have not yet been forged. Our region is dynamic and complex, and my primary objective this year is to ensure MLAB serves as a unifying force; one that fully supports our members, fosters exceptional collaboration, and unites our entire engineering community.

Metropolitan Los Angeles is a massive tapestry of distinct neighborhoods, each with its own unique needs. As civil engineers, our job is to listen first, ensuring our work truly lifts up the people we serve. By bringing public agencies, private firms, universities, and non-profits closer together, we can build a more unified, resilient, and connected region.

 

The true strength of MLAB isn’t found in blueprints, but rather in its members. Working closely with the LA Younger Member Forum (YMF) and our university chapters, we will put a heavy focus on mentorship. We want to spark those unmade connections, creating spaces where decades of experience and fresh, new perspectives can thrive together.

The future of Los Angeles infrastructure is unwritten, and that is exactly what makes this moment so inspiring. It serves as a reminder that tomorrow's breakthroughs depend entirely on the dedication, passion, and values we bring to our projects today.

Our community is at its absolute best when your voice is in the room. Therefore, I warmly invite you to jump right in, attend an upcoming branch gathering, join a technical committee, or simply reach out to a colleague you haven't met yet.
