About the Event

Join ASCE Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch, University of Southern California, and California Institute of Technology for the 6th dinner lecture in honor of Le Val Lund at the USC Hotel on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Registration will open at 5:00 PM, followed by social time with open bar. At 6:00 PM a panel discussion with lifeline infrastructure leaders will be held (details forthcoming). This is followed by a plated dinner and the 2024 Le Val Lund Lecture.

The 2024 lecture will be given by Anshel J. Schiff.  Dr. Schiff, the 2020 ASCE Le Val Lund Practice Award Recipient, was Professor of Engineering Sciences at Purdue University from 1967 to 1986 followed by 12 years as Consulting Professor of Civil Engineering at Stanford University. He was a member, Senior Seismic Review Advisory Panel, Seismic Qualification Users Group – Nuclear Regulatory Commission and served on the IEEE 693 Standards Working Group, “IEEE Recommended Practices for Seismic Design of Substations”. He was a member of the ASCE Technical Council on Lifeline Earthquake Engineering (TCLEE) since its inception and Chaired the Earthquake Investigation Committee and for about 30 years the Electric Power and Communications Committee. He participated in approximately 30-earthquake investigations. He edited two editions of the TCLEE Guide to Post-Earthquake Investigations of Lifelines. He also instituted the Substation Seismic Studies Group with others under the EPRI and served as it research director. He has authored numerous papers on earthquake effects on lifelines with an emphasis on electric power systems and is a member of ASCE, ASME, EERI, and SSA.
